Mobile theft racket: one arrested from Mohanpur area

KAILASHAHAR, August 27 (TIWN): In a major breakthrough, Kailashahar Police on Tuesday late night successfully managed to arrest Ranjit Rishi Das (26) from Mohanpur area who has accepted his involvement in the mobile theft case of Girl’s School road under Kailashahar sub-division.

The police will produce Ranjit Rishi Das before the court on Wednesday.

While the police was interrogating Ranjit Rishi, he admitted his involvement in the theft case on July 31. He revealed that altogether they were five people involved.

He further revealed that the gang has link with some of the shops of Dharmanagar and Agartala where they sell the looted stuff.

During interrogation it has came into that in most of the cases like 1year back from the Kailashahar Kalibari around Rs. 2 lakhs of ornaments has been looted and many others.

Reportedly, Over 3 lakhs of stuffs were looted from 3 mobile shops and a stationary shop on July 31. Pranab Majumder, Chiranjit Ghosh, Shibu Deb and Uttam Deb are the owners of the shop.

In order to take strict action against the gang, the locals of Kailashahar staged protest against the thieves on August 1.

The protest has started from morning 11 am and continued around noon 2 pm. During the protest the agitator had burnt tyres to show their resentment and agitation the locals against the Kailashahar police.

Superintendent Police Jalsing Mina, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Shudipta Das and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ajit Shukla Das rushed to the spot and to stop the protest and assured to take strict action.

The agitators complained that in most of the theft cases the police plays silent role. They said that earlier there are many cases of theft but till day the police fail to arrest the accused and to give justice to the victims.

Victim Uttam Deb said that including the loot happened yesterday night, earlier his shop has been looted for 3 times but till day the police could not arrest a single accused.

However, with the success of the police the locals are happy and expecting that the rest of the thieves also get arrested within few days.

Asked about development of the case, police said police team is conducting raid in different areas to trace out the absconding miscreant of the gang.

However, police is further investigating the case.
