UDAIPUR, August 25 (TIWN): Radha Kishor Pur Police on Monday late night managed to seize eight medieval silver coins from Bonduar Area under Udaipur sub-division which were pocketed by MGNREGA workers.
However, it is suspected that the police will manage to recover more twelve coins on Tuesday.
They are still in search of the other coins, said an official.
According to the locals, the MGNREGA workers had stumbled upon the coins while carrying out an excavation for levelling the land at the house of Rajendra Das.
There were around 23 REGA workers at the spot when the pitch pitcher was found, according to the report.
During excavation work, labourers found a copper pitcher filled with silver coins and stumbled over in fight who can take more.
On every coin hymns of Lord Shiva and other goddess were engraved.
The incident occurred at around 11 am in the morning. However, the police got the information at night and reached the spot at an around10:45 pm in the night.
Getting alarm of the police, owner Rajendra Das surrendered 8 coins to the police.
According to the locals, most of the houses in the area have shared 10 to 15 coins in their house.
However, the incident has created inconstancy in the area.
Besides, it has been alleged that the police are not taking any kind initiatives to collect the remaining coins which are ancient.
