AGARTALA, August 25 (TIWN): Of the total government schools in and around the state a total of 521 schools are facing an acute shortage of teachers letting the students deprived from the quality education in the golden era of Left front government. Around 285 Junior Basic JB Schools don’t have sanctioned teachers, 169 SB schools are facing shortage of teaching employees, 57 HS schools don’t have required teachers and 14 Higher Secondary schools lack in required teachers, said official source of school education department.

The official said that over 7000 posts of teachers remained vacant in the state school education department.

Of the total vacant posts, 1769 UGTs and 3816 GTs are required in different schools. As many as 1470 posts of PGTs remain vacant till the date. The official informed that 14 subject teacher posts- mostly science, English, political science remain vacant. Besides 57 HS schools and 169 SB schools are required science teachers respectively.

In view of the lack of proper infrastructures in different government schools he said that as many as 1128 schools don’t have furniture for students while 302 schools don’t have sitting arrangement for teaching staffs.

 He further said of the total PGTs, around 37.16 percent have been untrained while over 80 percent GTs are yet to undergo teacher’s training. Interestingly, most of the newly appointed UGTs  (9541) are untrained.

He also said the state government has already constituted Teachers’ Recruitment Board to undertake fresh recruitment in the School department. The Board would conduct Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) to fill up vacant posts in the department.

However, he did not specify when TET will be conducted for fresh recruitment. According to sources, the department plans to conduct TET after the civic bodies’ election.
