Auto Mafia Raj: Manik Dey encircled, NSUI demands arrest of the CITU backed auto driver

AGARTALA, August 23(TIWN): Even after 72 hours of the incident police has failed to arrest the CITU backed auto driver Liton Sil from the city and the west police has arrested the NSUI workers who set on a protest in front of Transport Minister Manik Deys house on Sunday demanding arrest of the accused auto driver Liton Sil as early as possible.

Following the FIR lodged by the victim Meenakshi Debnath, who was allegedly assaulted by the driver, the police department administrativeon Saturday suspended OC officer i/c Paramita Saha of west women police station for not accepting to write FIR against the auto driver but police has repeatedly failed to arrest the accused auto driver after 72 hours of the incident.

The NSUI on Sunday demanding arrest of Liton Saha charged transport minister Manik Dey for remaining silent over the issue and not taking any action against the driver.

This is not for the first time that auto drivers has assaulted any commuter in a broad day light but like all other cases no one has the time to address this issue.

It is worthy to mention here; though, a section of unruly auto drivers backed by CITU is still engaged in picking the pocket of regular passengers by charging excrescent fare, the concerned authority remained mum over the issue.

Overloading of passengers, charging extra fares, misbehaving with the commuters, is all that happening in and around the state.

Several auto drivers carry four to six passengers on sharing system to earn more money. However, it is against the law and also hazardous but no action.

Even after the Tripura High Court’s Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Subhasish Talapatra has directed to install point-to-point fares along auto-permits, none of the auto drivers has implemented this point-to-point auto fares.  Rather showing a thumb finger to the HC order and Violating the law and order of the Tripura HC, the unruly auto drivers across the capital city are found charging high fares as per their mood and yet no action.

Reportedly, resentment brewed up after a girl student of Tripura University was allegedly misbehaved and abused by an auto driver following a heated conversation between the commuter and driver over change and extra fare at Battala on Friday. Minakshi Debnath is a student of Tripura University, is a resident of a rented house in Panchabati area of Nutan Nagar adjacent to cooperative.

 After being assaulted by the auto driver the girl knocked the door west women Police station where allegedly she was threatened buy the OC i/c denied to file a complaint and asked to do a mutual understating between both of them.

However, SP Bijoy Nag assured to look into the matter and take necessary step against the accused if found guilty.

the heated conversation began after the auto driver allegedly harassed her taking for long time for giving change of Rs. 5. She boarded in the auto bearing number TR01-A-2538 from Panchabati area to go to Tripura University via Battala.

The localites also alleged that Even, the auto driver attempted to slap the girl. In her defence she also hit him and ran to police station.
