Tripura Govt. prefers education to be universalized on Centre’s fresh education policy, supports amendment of Compulsory Education Act-2009

AGARTALA, August 23 (TIWN): In view of the new education policy to be sponsored by central government Tripura government has come up with an aim to universalise the education system at entire nation under the new education policy as a main objective. “We urged the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MoHRD) to make education of the country universalise,” said State Higher Education Minister Tapan Chakroborty on Saturday.Chakroborty was briefing the meeting held by Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) on August 19 and chaired by Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Irani.He said that the government has supported the approach of the centre towards taking up the compulsory education act 2009 at primary and secondary stage after it is being amended.“At present the act is at elementary stage but it is required to push the act towards the primary and the secondary stage, though earlier we had no required it,” Chakroborty told media. Adding to that he said that the Government of India is moving ahead to get the act amended and passed in the parliament.Besides, Chakroborty expressing pleasure after attending the CABE meeting chaired by Irani said, “This is for the first time that the government at the centre had approached towards seeking responses of all the states prior to form a national policy.”Chakroborty hoped that the new education policy to be formed by the central government after getting the responses from all the states of the nation would come with fresh objectives and would expand the entire education system further. The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, will soon come out with a new national policy on education.

The initiative comes after a long period of 23 years since the last revision of education policy in 1922.

The National Policy on Education was framed in 1968. It was revised and modified in 1986 and later updated in 1992.
