21st International Day of World’s Indigenous Peoples observed

AGARTALA, August 9 (TIWN): On the occasion of the 21st International Day of World’s Indigenous Peoples a hall meeting has been organized at Khumlung in the presence of chief executive member (CEM) of Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Radhacharan Debbarma on Sunday.

To mark the day, several programmes were taken up to celebrate the day enthusiastically.

However, a street corner was organized in the capital city where Sabhapati Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl along with General Secretary Jagadish Debbarma, Former MLA Rajeshwar Debbarma and others were present.

The massive rally h as begun from 12 pm in the afternoon and will end at around 6 pm in the evening.

The rally was organized with a theme “Post 2015 agenda: Ensuring Indigenous People Health and Well-Being”.

The programme was organized with the initiatives of the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT) and Twipra Students Federation (TSF)

The Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra is a political party in the Indian state of Tripura. INPT is led by Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl (former guerrilla leader of the Tripura National Volunteers).

The INPT was formed as a merger of the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura and the Tripura Upajati Juba Samiti in 2002.

The formation of the INPT was pushed through after pressure from the underground National Liberation Front of Tripura, who wanted to unite all tribal nationalist forces in a single party. The INPT is commonly seen as the political branch of NLFT.
