AGARTALA, August 7 (TIWN):All the opposition members today staged walkout from the assembly protesting the state government decision to set up an English medium college in the erstwhile central jail area. Rising the issue during question hour, treasury bench MLA Manoranjan Roy wanted to know whether government has any proposal to set up English medium college in the state.
Higher education department said the government have decided to set up an college at the erstwhile jail area.On this opposition MLA Gopal raised objection in setting up an college, he demanded a botanical garden at the erstwhile jail area. He claimed that earlier in the assembly Chief Minister Manik Sarkar assured the members that there will be a botanical garden.On this heated argument was noticed between the opposition and treasury bench members.
Opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman termed the decision of the government as a blunder. According to him the capital Agartala capital fast becoming a congested with concrete building and rising vehicles.
Besides it was demand of the civil society to have a botanical garden. He urged the government to set up the college in the outskirt of the capital. Chief Minister in his reply stated that the government already took a decision to set up an English medium college in the erstwhile jail area, there is no scope to change the decision. On this the entire opposition staged a walk out from the assembly.
After the question hour opposition member returned to the assembly. Later three bills were laid in the house – the ICFAI university bill, Tripura cooperative societies Bill and The Maharaja Bir Bikram University Bill. It is mentionable here that the three days assembly session commenced today
