KHOWAI, August 7 (TIWN): In order to plug loopholes in the porous and unfenced borders 10bn BSF urged for a boat, saying that it would be easy to give security over the Khowai River where there is no fence which is near the Pohormura Area under Khowai Police Station if a boat is given by the administration.

Though the police officials are guarding the area at night, the BSF could also raise their helping hand to stop the smuggling in the unfenced area over the river which is in between Chorbonti Area and Pohormura Village, said an official of BSF.

The official of 10bn BSF said that due to strict security at the fencing area the smugglers are not able to cut the fence for the last 2 months.

But as there is no fence in between the Chorbonti Area and Pohormura Village which is over Khowai River, added. Taking advantage of the situation some of the smugglers tries to smuggle contraband goods from the unfenced area.

There are Bangladseshi smugglers who try to enter the border by cutting down the wire fencing but due to strict security of 10bn BSF.

Therefore, the smugglers are not able to carry on with their smuggling of good on the other side of the fencing.

The 10bn BSF could have assured security at the Khowai River as well if the administration could have deployed boats for the security purpose.

It has been mentioned here that 10 battalion BSF jawans are in duty at the Pohormura border area. Interestingly, in presence of the Jawans; deployed in the border area, the smugglers no more manage to cut the wire fence and dare to enter the area.

The Indo-Bangladesh border is highly leaky making the illegal movement of smugglers and goods a regular affair.

The territory and the demographic composition of the border area make it favorable for Bangladeshis to sneak into India and also to get easily assimilated with the local masses.
