AGARTALA, Aug 6 (TIWN): Paying tribute to the architect of the Indian constitution Dr. B R Ambedkar on his 125 Birth Aniversary at Chandrai Para H.S School on Wednesday, Welfare of Schedule Caste Minister Ratan Bhowmik said that Dr Ambedkar throughout his life fought for the eradication of social and economic inequality and discrimination of the suppressed Dalits, poor and women, said an Official on Thursday.
He added that Dr. Ambedkar was an archangel for the poor and downtrodden and fought for equal rights of both men and women, particularly the Dalits.
Regretting over the caste discrimination, Minister Bhowmik said that till day a section of people has been facing problems as they do not belong to High Class or any respective. They are being discriminated from the society.
It is worthy to mention that Bhowmik said that State Government is working on various programmes for the welfare of the minority class.
He also mentioned that the State Government is taking several initiatives to make the SC, ST and OBC people self reliant.
Ambedkar Jayanti or Bhim Jayanti is an annual festival observed on 14 April to commemorate the memory of B. R. Ambedkar.
Dr Ambedkar made several provisions in the Constitution for the equal development of different sections of society.
Bhowmik also urged the students to follow the foot print of Dr. Ambedkar.
During the programme, MLA Lalit Kumar Debbarma and Anjan Das spokes about the biography of Dr. Ambedkar.
At the programme, the dignitaries have discussed about the Present India and Relevance of Dr. B R Ambedkar.
The programme was organized with the initiatives of the Dhalai District Administration.
