AGARTALA, July 30(TIWN): For the up gradation of the Bangladesh visa office at Agartala, the members of Mukti Yodha Snamanana in a press meet on Thursday said that they will send a letter to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Haseena, for up gradation of Bangladesh visa office.
The Bangladesh visa office here would be elevated to the status of Assistant High Commission to boost bilateral trade between the country and India's north-eastern region, official sources said. There is only one Bangladesh Mission in the region at present. The upgradation was necessitated in view of the growing trade between Bangladesh and India's North-East, the sources said.
It is to be mention here that, as a mark of the respect and commemoration departed leader Banga bondhu Shiekh Mujibar Rahaman has established this Bagladesh visa office in 1974 art Agartala. Later, the government of Bangladesh decided to upgrade this as Deputy High Commission office like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and others.
The Bangladesh visa office here will soon be upgraded to a full-fledged deputy high commission.
Appropriate diplomatic staff will also be posted here. Responding to repeated appeals from Tripura and other states of the Northeast, the Bangladesh government had earlier taken a decision to upgrade this visa office to the status of a full-fledged deputy high commission for the benefit of people to and from Bangladesh.
The relationship between two countries is strengthening day by day. Substantial quantum of trade and commerce has already been undertaken by both the countries. MoU’s have been inked in various field of co-operation between the two countries. However, under this circumstance, the members of Mukti Yodha Snamanana have requested the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Haseena to look into the matter of up gradation of Bangladesh Visa office.
