PWD blames NBCC for deplorable condition of city roads

AGARTALA, July 30 (TIWN): In wake of the mostly talked about the deplorable condition of the city roads at most of the important areas causing inconvenience to the people and transportation the state Public Work Department (PWD) has recently blamed the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) saying that the construction company had failed to maintain the town roads as a result the commuters are facing serious trouble.

Over the past few weeks, different roads have developed puddles causing inconvenience to the people. And, the situation of various has got worst after torrential showers for the past few days.

The NBCC, which was entrusted with the task to improve sewerage system from Radhanagar to GB Chowmuhani and GB Chowmuhani to Indranagar via Bhati Abhoynagar, has failed to maintain the roads, the PWD official said. He said creation of public utility in different locations of the city has also taken its toll as so many puddles were found in some roads.

Underground drainage system has been remained half-done causing problem in releasing flood water to downstream.

He also said that border pipeline has also emerged a major problem. “We had told NBCC authority on several occasions to upkeep the roads while executing different projects but it did not pay heed on it resulting in inconvenience to public,” said the official.

On the sideline of another issue the PWD official said that the ongoing construction work of Raj Bhavan is expected to get completed by March 2016 with the construction company trying hard to finish it at the earliest.

A vast area of East and South Zone witnessed water logging yesterday following torrential shower rendering 3500 people homeless. The unprecedented flash flood raised question mark on the proper sewerage system in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) area.
