CBI probe likely for Bishalgarh RD Block multi-crore scam, HC to hear separate PIL on August 31

AGARTALA, July 29 (TIWN): High Court would hear the two separate Public Interest Litigations (PILs) over the much hyped Bishalgarh multi-crore scam on August 31. The two separate PILs were filed by Senior Advocate Arun Chandra Bhowmik and Dr. Ashok Sinha seeking Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the scam unearthed at Bishalgarh R. D. Block. The hearing is believed to be the final. Talking to TIWN in this regard advocate Arun Chandra Bhowmik on Wednesday said that the serious scam and the first of its kind ever unearthed in Bishalgarh RD Block and which can be termed as much hyped is likely to get the CBI probe.In the recent past, Court partly heard the plea on cancellation of bail of suspended BDO Bimal Chakraborty, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore scam at Bishalgarh block, filed by Police. The next hearing will take place on August 07. Bhowmik also said that the prime accused of the scam Bimal Chakroborty who is currently under conditional bail has owned a property in the name of his brother and also the CPI-M baked DYFI leader Amal Chakroborty and father in-law. He was involved in the hefty financial transparency under the Bishalgarh R D Block.

Bimal was arrested by the police but allegedly due to the negligence role of the police and allegedly acting on behest of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar got have a conditional bail for accused Bimal Chakroborty who is also a close aide of Manik Sarkar.

The former BDO of Bishalgarh block, Bimal Chakraborty prime accused of mutli core MGNREGA scam was granted conditional bail on Monday. The additional session court judge Udit Choudhury granted bail as Bimal completed 180 days in jail custody and police failed to submit charge sheet.

The condition for getting bail was signing a bond of Rs 2 lakh and guarantor of government employee. Besides, he should also appear before the investigation officer at regular interval after gap of 15 days.

According to the reliable source who is engaged to the case very actively, accused Bimal’s conditional bail might get extended as he comes out to be very impactful man and also a close aide of Manik Sarkar. Asked about any chance of further arrest the source said that there is a very less chance but it now depend on the CBI probe only if the court orders for it.

Based on a special audit report indicting misappropriation of MGNREGA fund at Bishalgarh block for the past one-and-a-half years, an FIR was lodged against 12 officers and employees including the then BDO Chakraborty June 4 last year. After receiving substantial evidence, Chakraborty was suspended to pave the way for investigation into the multi-crore scam.

Later, he was arrested by Police and granted bail by a local court. However, the first charges sheet was filed on January 11 last. Challenging the decision of the local court, Police moved to the High Court of Tripura seeking cancellation of bail of the suspended official. The Chief Justice inquired of the details of the arrestees and the other accused who have not been arrested yet. He also asked the Police to issue Red Corner Notice against those who have not been arrested yet.
