Still now a large section of household is deprived from safe drinking water. One year back, Agartala Municipal Council became Corporation – crores of money was pumped by Centre for providing safe drinking water to each household. They have to drink unsafe water, giving rise to serious resentment among households. In some places they organize protest rally for safe drinking water. The main problem of AMC is water scarcity, decade long back number of project was undertaken by government crores and crores of money was spent. From CM to ward councilor’s gave infinite number of times promising them of 24 x 7 water supply, the reality was it just remained a lip service. The most worst affected area are the extended wards of AMC.

It is mentionable here that  Rs 400 crore was scantioned  by Asian Development Bank   to set up water supply projects in AMC. Altogether 22 deep tube wells would be setup as per the plan, of which works for 19 deep tube wells have already been completed. Of the total 14 over-hand tanks, works are in progress for nine such tanks. A length of 232 km water pipeline would be laid under the first phase of the ADB aided drinking water supply project for giving water connections to 42000 households in the area.
