Existing committee of Agriculture organizes meeting

AGARTALA, July 27 (TIWN): A meeting of the existing committee of Agriculture was organized on Saturday where the officials have discussed about the various development programme and ongoing projects in the West District.

During the meeting, the Deputy Director of Agricultural Department informed that in the current financial year initiatives will be taken to produce altogether 1lakh metric tonne of food crops. He also presented the data of the produced food grains of the last financial year that is 85, 000 metric tonne.

He has also informed that the department has forwarded 1826 application in different banks for the sanction of loan on Kisan Credit Card for the farmers of the District and till day 287 applications are being accepted. At the meeting, Deputy Director has come up with a proposal of opening 5 market stalls in the district.

During the meeting, the Deputy Director Park and Land Conservation Department informed that this year 100 hector of area will be brought under the TPS Potato cultivation and pine apple cultivation will be done over 30 hector of land. He also mentioned that the vegetables of winter season will be done over 350 hector of land.

The Deputy Director of Fishery Department informed at the meeting that in the current financial year an initiative has been taken to distribute 12 lakh of fish larva. He said that till day 11 lakh 40 thousand of fish larva has been distributed.

According to the information of the Animal Resource Department, to modernize the Gandhigram Farm altogether Rs. 1 crore has been sanctioned and the work will be started very soon. The project manager of the department informed that last year 117 water harvesting structure has been constructed and 15 more will be constructed. Besides, 76 old water bodies will be renovated.

Interestingly, despite several initiatives taken to eliminate poverty from the state, mother’s strained with poverty having no other option sell their children. Even, there are some parents who give away their children without any kind of demands but with a hope that the future of the children will be poverty free. There are some parents who think that the earning is not enough to take care of the child.

The various departments of the state have started initiative to develop the Agricultural sector, Fishery, Animal and many more. But, success in terms of recovery and re-generation are not in visibility. The department has been sanctioning several allowances and distributing materials to the beneficiaries but no sign of improvement.
