AGARTALA, July 25 (TIWN): With the joint initiatives of the Ramkrishna Vivekananda Vidyamandir and Sheba and Shohayota Parishad, Van Mahotsav has been celebrated on Saturday at the Ramkrishna Vivekananda Vidyamandir premises of Dhaleshwar.

As a part of the programme, around 100 saplings have been planted at the premises of the school so that the value of trees continues to increase among the students and more benefits of trees are being discovered expanding the knowledge of the importance of trees among the students.

Addressing the programme, the dignitaries focused over the importance of the trees in the daily life of the human beings.

Stressing o the importance, they said that trees are an important part of every community. The streets, parks, playgrounds and backyards should be lined with trees that create a peaceful, aesthetically pleasing environment.

Trees increase the quality of life by bringing natural elements and wildlife habitats into urban settings.

They said that it is impossible to think of living beings existence without trees. As the trees plays an important role in covering a great deal of the food deficiency by providing fruits and vitamins. They supply timber for various uses. Trees also prevent from soil erosion.

Many kinds of medicines are prepared form leaves, roots and barks of trees. Above all, they help us to keep ecological balance supplying oxygen.

During the programme, around 500 students have participated.

Focusing to encourage the students towards caring the nature they said that trees helps in improving health as they strongly encourage children including elders should go to parks or in green environment for walking, exercising, jogging which helps them reduce obesity and keeps them fit.

They also stressed that the ultraviolet rays which are very harmful for anyone and can cause the most common form of cancer. Trees help in protecting from ultra-violet rays as they reduce UV-B exposure.

During the programme, Chairman of Pollution Control Board Amitaba Debnath, Head Master Narayan Chandra Chakraborty, President of Sheba and Shohayota Parishad Pijush Kanti Sarkar and other were present.
