AGARTALA, July 25(TIWN): The import-export business and transportation of goods between India and Bangladesh has been suspended for the next two days and is scheduled to resume business from Monday.Talking to Habool Biswas, Secretary Agartala Export-Import association said, Akhaura Land port business is suspended due to construction work of Baily Bridge over Jaji River at Bangarchor area of Bharamanbaria of Bangladesh.Import export will remain close for two days and if all construction work goes well the business will be resumed by Monday. All transports will remain suspended due to Bharamanbaria Road and waterway Baily bridge renovation work. It is expected that from Sunday onward again common business will start through this land custom, added Biswas.Biswas confirmed that the renovation work of the bridge will also be carried out on Friday as officially the business remains close due to official holiday of Bangladesh. He further said the Baily Bridge is settled at a distance of 200meter from Bagladesh custom office. After the official holiday of Eid which concluded recently, the drivers faced serious difficulty while travelling with the goods over the bridge.

Few loopholes were found over Jaji Baili Bridge and there was serious need of renovation of the bridge and accordingly the Bangladesh land custom authority informed that the Export-import business to remain suspended for 2 days.
As there is only one way for importing as well exporting goods from both the side it is decided by the authority that business will remain suspended for two days and the bridge will renovated under emergency time period of two days and the business will be resumed byMonday in full swing.

The suspension of import and export from both the sides will create a state of irregularity among the traders as Akhaura land port is considered as one of the State's most busy and used station for inward and outward trade with the neighboring Bangladesh

All the major markets of Tripura depend on the import of fish from Bangladesh, so there is possibility that measures might be taken to continue the supply of fish to the state as fish comes in smaller vehicles but the movement of heavy goods loaded truck will remain suspended.

The Akhaura land custom station has been mainly dealing with import business from Bangladesh for catering the domestic need of fish, edible items, melamine and toiletries, ready-made garments and stones chips in Tripura, but the suspension of formal trade will badly affect the state markets.
