AGARTALA/DHARMANAGAR July 24 (TIWN): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Sudindra Das Gupta and members of the party staged a protest rally at Dharmanagar on Friday afternoon which catered a crowd of 3000 people to protest the attack on a BJP supporter by SFI members on July 23 at Dharmanagar College.
Addressing the rally at Dharmanagar old Motor stand he said that the party strongly criticizes the unruly attitude of the ruling government and demands immediate arrest of the accused.
Talking to TIWN correspondent Das Gupta said that the party demands immediate arrest of the accused involved in the incident. We will intensify the agitation if the police fail to arrest the persons involved in the incident.
The matter is also informed to the central ministry and it is expected that very soon some action will be taken against the misrule attitude by the SFI members, added Das Gupta.
It is to be mention here that at least five members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) youth wing were allegedly injured in clash with the activists of Student Federation of India (SFI) in Tripura's Dharmanagar government degree college area.
According to an eyewitness, the dispute broke out when SFI activists thrashed an ABVP (student wing of BJP) member after the latter declined to accept SFI membership. Enraged by this, ABVP activists and BJP Yuva Morcha gathered on the spot in protest.
After this a fight broke out between SFI, ABVP and BJP Yuva Morcha, in which the five people were injured.
An FIR has also been lodged with Dharmanagar police station accusing the SFI leaders, but so far no action is taken by the police. Even on Thursday afternoon a protest rally was staged in the town by BJP condemning the attack. However, the rally was disrupted by CPI-M cadres who stopped the rally got into scuffle with SFI leaders.
However, BJP demanded immediate arrest of the accused or else they further stage massive protest.
