AGARTALA, July 23 (TIWN): Despite the central government had sanctioned to build up at least 16 schools at reang refugee camp under North Tripura District, the state government had so far failed to act towards setting up educational institutions depriving the refugees at large from primary education. In a PAB meeting at New Delhi during the 2014-15 Financial Year the central government had sanctioned the state government to start 16 schools at reang refugee camp for at least 4000 children. In the government report it was stated that state had a target of covering 4924 out of school children during 2014-15. State covered 3968 children only. The report also mentioned that state could not cover 956 identified out of school children. During 2014-15, against coverage of 743 children under special training, state could mainstream only 281 children in regular school which is 38 per cent only. It was also pointed out that only 16 NRST centres in camps populated by the Reang migrant are running in perpetuation as there are no schools in these camps. However, previous year PAB has approved 16 primary schools exclusively for this children notwithstanding the neighbourhood norms of the state. These schools were approved at the assurance by the state that there will be no special training centres in these areas once the schools are approved.

Despite that the state has not opened any of the sanctioned schools and is proposing coverage of 4004 children belonging to migrant families.

There is also no information about any strategy employed by the state to reach out to most marginalised and disadvantaged children.

Besides, talking to the official of North Tripura District very recently, he informed that despite there was a proposal to open an school at the camps the state education department had only opened up one non-residential training institute.
