Buyer seller meet on organic produce held at Pragna Bhawan

AGARTALA, July 22 (TIWN): A buyer seller meet on organic produce has been organized on Wednesday at Pragna Bhawan. The programme was organized with the joint initiatives of the national Institute of Agricultural Marketing, Jaipur, Government of India and Directorate of Biotechnology, Government of Tripura.

Focusing to make the organic farming popular among the farmers and impose marketing of the organic produce the programme has been organized.

Science, Technology and Environment Minister Bijita Nath have inaugurated the programme in the presence of Deputy Speaker Pabitra Kar and AMC Mayor Dr. Prafullajit Sinha.

During the programme, it has been mentioned that the state has taken several initiatives to make the organic farming popular and profitable within 3years.

To promote the organic farming in the state for the last two years the Directorate of Biotechnology has been distributing Biotech Kit among the small and marginal farmers in the various interior parts of the state in free of cost.

The Biotech Kit consists of bio-pesticides, bio-fungicides, sprayer and many other essential things. It is considered indispensible to promote these technologies to the door step of the farmers in every corner of the state for improvement of soil health and to create a hazard free sustainable environment.

In different parts of the state bee boxes has been distributed and training has been provided to the farmers.

This production system avoids or largely excludes the use of synthetically compounded fertilizers, pesticide, growth regulator and livestock feed additives. To the maximum extent feasible organic farming system really upon crop rotations, crop residues, animal manures, legumes, green manure, off- farm organic wastes and aspects of biological pest control insets, pest weeds etc.

During the programme, the dignitaries has emphasised over the essentiality of the organic farming and its product.

Organic farming is a form of agriculture that relies on techniques such as crop rotation, green manure, compost, and biological pest control.

Organic farming uses fertilizers and pesticides which include herbicides, insecticides and fungicides if they are considered natural such as bone meal from animals or pyrethrum from flowers, but it excludes or strictly limits the use of various methods including synthetic petrochemical fertilizers and pesticides; plant growth regulators such as hormones; antibiotic use in livestock; genetically modified organisms; human sewage sludge.

At the second phase of the programme, the dignitaries have discussed about the various modern techniques which can be utilized during the organic farming.
