AGARTALA, July 21 (TIWN): A heavy downpour triggered a flash flood in low-lying areas of landlocked Tripura on Sunday and the situation remains same with thousands of family stranded and some already left houses in view of the situation expected to remain unchanged in the coming days. According to the official record being collected on Monday a total of 3, 651 families were badly affected due to the flood whereas more than 2000 families were temporarily sheltered at other part from the affected areas.

The Metrological department official had warned that heavy shower along with thunder storm would badly hit the entire state in the coming hours. The official said the humidity rages between maximum of 28 per cent and minimum of 92 per cent.

The incessant rain since Saturday morning till Sunday night had caused heavy flood around the embankment of River Howrah and had uprooted several houses leaving the helpless families drowned under water.

Talking to TIWN on Monday morning the West District administrative officials had informed that there is no report any deaths or any major casualty so far but a total of 3, 651 families were badly affected amongst whom more than two thousand families were sheltered temporarily.

The affected families claimed that despite such problems the administrative officials had not extended their helping hand which is actually required primarily. The administration had not taken any initiatives to displace the affected people who were almost drowned under water and houses were entirely uprooted.

However, SDM (Sadar) Manik Lala Das responding to the allegation told to TIWN, “We have deployed at least 10 boats across the areas which were seen almost submerged under rail water.” A total of 4 boats were placed at Srilanka Bosti area which is worst affected, 1 boat at Jirania area, one at Professor Para, and other such areas were covered by boats.

“We tried our level best to rescue the people from the heavy flood and as part of this we also sheltered more than two thousand families temporarily,” adding to that das mentioned that the administration had also taken up initiative to provide dry foods to the victims.

Thousands of homes were inundated due to the flood water and the worst hit area was Srilanka Bosti and other parts adjacent to the river embankments.

The victim to the flash flood on Monday claimed that if the state government and its bodu would have necessary step restricting the river water entering their house than today they would not have to face such troubles where people are prevented to go out of their houses and bring food.

It is worthy to be mentioned here that recently Chief Minister Manik Sarkar during a meeting held at Guwahati claimed that there is a need of construction of multi-purpose disaster shelters for floods, cyclones and earthquakes in every community.
