AGARTALA, July 20 (TIWN): The rural health services in the state are far from satisfactory result though the state has vast primary health centres to make available the medical demand of the people. The Gandacherra sub-division has one sub-division hospital and three primary health centres including 19 sub-centres.

All together there are 11 doctors in the sub division. Among the 11 doctors, seven are on duty at the sub division hospital. Besides, the Raisha Bari and Jagabandhu Para Primary Health Centre have 2 doctors each but the Dalapati Para Primary Health Centre does not have any doctors to look after the patients of the hospital which is disaster for the people in the area.

Many sanctioned posts are laying vacant thus rendering costly medical infrastructure created at these health institutions remains useless because they lack specialists to operate them. The doctors prefer lucrative urban postings rather than serving at a PHC.

In addition the lack of facilities for children education is deterrent in getting good professionals in rural areas. The condition is pathetic in far flung areas of the state where almost 100% of serious cases are referred to district hospitals thus putting the patients and their families to inconvenience.

Therefore, the patients are forced to visit private clinics and spend more money for getting their medical tests done but certain facilities in the PHC can’t benefit people as there is no one to operate them. Besides, remaining non-functional the machines get spoiled.

The Gandacherra is a malaria zone area and above that if the patient does not get proper health service than it may hamper the health of the common people. Along with malaria the people are exposed to various water borne diseases.

The government claims to have opened several PHCs but delivery of services is far from satisfactory results. Ultimately, patients are the sufferers who have to not only have to visit other health institutions, including private, but also shells out more money to get the timely medical facilities.

However, it becomes hectic for the poor people to shell out such a hefty amount of money for the health service and sometime they remains without any kind of health assistance.
