AGARTALA, July 19 (TIWN): Being pushed by the High Court recently which on its interim order had curbed the private practises by the administrative level doctors of the state, the state health and family welfare department is contemplating to bring a change in the state’s premier healthcare institution, GB Pant Hospital. Some specialists doctors would be inducted at the major departments of the hospital soon, official source said.
The official said that to remove a long pending stigma, the department has already initiated a move to depute special doctors in all major departments and wards in the night shift.
However, the official also said that a substantial number of doctors keep them busy days and night in private practise in their own chamber therefore to contain this, the department has taken certain initiatives to keep the doctors in the hospital and cater the need of the patients.
The department plans to keep at least one specialist doctor of each major department like Medicine, Orthopaedics, Surgery and Gynaecology in the night shift.
The move has come up keeping in mind the growing allegations against the doctors for remaining absent in the hospital in the night shift. Besides, despite the recent directive by the HC, a section of doctors are found still practising private in their clinics in and around the city.
The State Government banned the private practice of Government doctors saying that the full time doctors who are engaged in the Government Hospitals and holding the administrative posts will not be allowed to continue private practises.
Besides, The All Tripura Doctors' Association has recently opposed the recent ban on private practice by doctors holding administrative posts in the health department.
