AGARTALA, July 18 (TIWN): Century old, Indira Gandhi Memorial ( IGM) hospital has become one of the most deadly hospitals for infants. According to data in 2014, in total 246 children had died in the hospital out of 8152 admitted, which has become a routine in IGM hospital, sadly reporting.Less medical facilities, non professional attitude of doctors and criminal silence of government, all these have made IGM a hell for infants.

The data shows every day in average 135 infants remain admitted in IGM IPD and  225 infants are treated in OPD. As per the data of infants, there would be eight child specialists and twelve MBBS doctors. But there are only four specialist and  eleven MBBS doctors.People whose infants are admitted in the hospital for cure of ailments have complained of dismal and sordid condition of the hospital in regard to both medical attention and infrastructural condition. As the hospital had already come under scanner and disturbing reports on its functionality were brought to the notice of the public, we would exhort the Health Department to constitute a one-man inquiry committee to go into the nature of crisis in this hospital and submit a report within a week to the Government suggesting how overall functionality and infrastructural conditions of the hospital can be improved. The Health Department should take it on priority.

To make it model infant hospital in the state, Manik Sarkar government  spent crores of money  in making new buildings and in providing other infrastructures. The layers of dust are getting thicker and thicker everyday on costly machines. Some of them were never used and some need small repairing. Similarly the generic medicine shop of this hospital has also turned into a show piece because almost all the racks are empty since last more than three months.
