CM greets people of the state on the occasion of Eid

AGARTALA, July 15 (TIWN): On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar greeted people of the state with a hope that the festival will strengthen the brotherhood in the state.

In his message to the people of the state, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said that on the auspicious occasion of the of Eid-ul-Fitr, he extended good wishes and warm greetings to all the citizens of the state, particularly to the Muslim brothers and sisters.

He said that the festival enriches the lives with tradition of giving and sharing with a spirit of brotherhood. He further wished that may this festival reinforce the commitment of the citizens of the state towards mutual harmony.

During the festival huge crowd could be witnessed in the Masjid’s of the state including Gedumiya Masjid, the Masjid at Ramnagar road number 4, Chandrapur Masjid, Sonamura and in various other places.

The main occasion can be observed at Gedumiya Masjid.

The religious day is a single day during which Muslims are not permitted to fast. This is a day when Muslims around the world show a common goal of unity.

In the evening, people exchange gifts and enjoy special dishes, particularly 'sewayian' made of vermicelli and different varieties of biryani.

During the festival season, despite major rise in the prices of all commodities in state, thousands of people were seen purchasing items for their loved ones and their family members.

Social networking sites also throng with greets and warm wishes for their loved ones who are staying outside the state and the country.

Ramzan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is observed as a fasting period by Muslims who abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset and it culminates in Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

The month honours the Angel Gabriel's revelation of the Koran, the holy scripture of Islam, to the Prophet Mohammed about 1,400 years ago.

During Ramzan, Muslims offer special prayers called Taraweeh at the end of their usual five-time prayers.
