AGARTALA, July 14 (TIWN): All India People’s Forum in a press meet held at Tripura Human Rights Office, Agartala on July 13 voiced against Tripura state govt.’s activity of depriving poor people who worked in the maintenance of NH 44 and appealed the Governor to ask the state govt. to bring back the their livelihood.

According to the reports, the National Highway (No-44) which had been taken care by “Border Road Organization” under central govt. till 2013 through which many labours of the state earned their livelihood. But it was suddenly taken away in 2013’s month of July, with Tripura Govt. had taken the responsibility of this work from the central govt. and handed over to PWD.

In 2013, PWD under Tripura Govt. had taken the responsibility for maintenance of NH 44 which connects Tripura with Assam. But with that the state govt. deprived the labours by omitting them from this particular job.

As a result, All India People’s Forum knocked the door of Governor with the demand of returning their source of income by engaging the poor people to the maintenance work of NH 44 and to ask the state govt. to involve the labours in this work which is presently running under PWD dept.

“Due to state govt.’s interference in B.R.O. controlled NH 44’s work, many people have come on the road”, alleged AIPF. They further mentioned to fulfill their demands immediately so that the families can get their livelihoods back.
