AGARTALA, July 14 (TIWN): Chief Minister Manik Sarkar will inaugurate the B. Ed college at Kumarghat, Unakoti district on July 15next, civil secretariat sources said. After inauguration of the college, Sarkar is schedule to preside over a review meeting with top officials of civil and police administration of the district. In the meeting he will take a stock of the developmental activities of the district.
Meanwhile, ahead of Sarkar’s visit, a preparatory meeting was held at Kumarghat circuit house. The meeting was attended by M.K. Nath, DM of Unakoti distirct, B. Palit, Director of higher education and other senior officials. A separate meeting was held related to security of Sarkar by district police administration.
This B. Ed college was built at cost of Rs 20 crore by PWD of Kumarghat division. The college can accommodate 100 students, more than 6000 students have applied for admission in the college. After inauguration the college will start functioning from this academic session.
It is mentionable here that the Centre has made B. Ed compulsory for teachers of secondary and higher-secondary schools .The guideline was issued with the provisions of the Right to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009.
State Government also announced a new recruitment policy according to guideline of National Council of Teachers. As a result the candidates must have to appear and clear Teachers Eligibility Test or TET for appointment of teachers from class I to VIII. Besides, candidates will have to prove their eligibility through a written test for being appointed as teachers from class IX to class XII.
Written test will be compulsory for appointment of teachers from class IX to class –XII. The graduate and post graduate candidates must pass with 50 percent marks. At the same time they should have B.Ed. degrees.
