AGARTALA, July 13 (TIWN): Getting a nod from the Central Government, Tripura Left front Government has been preparing to dispatch 100 Mega Watt (MW) of power to neighboring country Bangladesh with an aim to strengthen the bi-lateral ties. Transmission of 100 MW of power from Tripura to neighboring country Bangladesh will begin next year, an official said on Monday. According to the official, the state is yet to decide from which of its source the power would be dispatched to Bangladesh’s Comilla District. The official said, “If everything falls in right track then we would be able to dispatch the power transmission to Bangladesh from 2016.” He said “We also have to search for our source from which the power would be dispatched to Bangladesh.” The National Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd, a subsidiary of NTPC, will fix the tariff of power, the official said. According to the master plan the power would be dispatched from Tripura Suryamaninagar, to Comilla District of Bangladesh via Bishalgarh Sepahijala District. Sixty five transmission towers are being erected by Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd for transmission of power. Besides, according to the sources Palatana OTPC power plant is also eyeing forward to extend its power generation with the state government planning further to dispatch the 100 MW of power for the plant.

Palatana OTPC is expected to launch another Unit to generate at least 90 MW of power soon this year.

A high level meeting was held on June 2 at the Ministry of Power office, where it has been finalized that the state government would provide a power of 100 MW to Bangladesh from its own source.

However, the Centre is funding Rs 83 crore for the project and despite all odds, Tripura has topped the list of highest power surplus state in the country with the installation of 726.6 MW Palatana project.

It is to be mentioned that all the power generating company across the country would receive about Rs 6, 00,000 crore debt from the entire country.

PGCIL has already completed work on 20 of the 65 transmission towers in south and western part of Tripura, whereas the work on more 45 towers is underway.

The state government has planned to supply power to Bangladesh as the Bangladesh government had extended her helping hand towards bringing the heavy machineries here in Tripura Palatana through their land.
