UDAIPUR, July 13 (TIWN): With the initiative of child welfare committee and Child help line 2 child labourers were handed over to their parents on Monday. The children were kept in the orphanage at Khilpara under Udaipur Sub-division.

Jahir Hussein (14) and Sukanta Deb (13) were handed over to their parents from the orphanage on Monday morning. After interrogation with the children, the child help line committee found that Jahir is a resident of Dharmananr and Sukanta belongs from Ambassa.

Reportedly, R.K.Pur Police on July 11 rescued 4 child labours from Udaipur Matabari area who had been working as handyman in trucks carrying sacks of rice at the go-down of Food Corporation of India (FCI), located at Chandrapur colony, under Udaipur Sub-division. The child labours were brought from different parts of the state, including 1 from Guwahati.

Police had failed to nab the driver of the truck although. R.K. Pur police, under the leadership of SI Biswajit Das had been informed from sources about few child labourers, following which police raided to each and every shop at Matatbari location, but by the police reached the spot the truck driver managed to flee.

Police is further investigating the case.

It is to be mentioned here that the national commission had visited the state in 2013 to oversee the deplorable condition of children in Mizoram Reang refugee camps in north Tripura on a complaint by a New Delhi based human rights organization; however the scenario has not yet changed.

According to IPC 374, whoever unlawfully compels any child to labour against the will of that person shall be punished with imprisonment, which may extend to one year or with fine or both. The act prohibits the employment of children below the age of 14 in factories, households and other places. But law and order comes later, first the govt. should impose strict restrictions upon child-labour issues, then it the crime will automatically decrease.

Many such children are who are being deprived of education and suffer from every day miseries are found working in every grocery shops, households, vehicle, and industries all over the state.

However, the other two children identified as Aktar Hossain hailing from Dataram and Bishra Urao are still in the orphanage as their parents could not be contacted so far.
