SONAMURA, July 13 (TIWN): Within 8 months of construction of the newly-built motor stand at Sonamura the stand has turned into a death prone zone. The stand was inaugurated on October 31, 2014 by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar along with transport minister Manik Dey and within mere 8 months of time it has turned into a deplorable condition. The motor stand is in awful posing life taking risk for the travelers through this motor stand.

Poor quality of construction materials and series of irregularities were blamed for the poor condition of the newly built motor stand at Sonamura.

The contract for the construction work was given to NBCC, and further NBCC handed over the construction work to other construction company.

Monsoon has wrecked havoc and has totally washed away the black carpeting of the road of the Bus Stand leaving behind only stones and boulders while the boundary wall separating the Bus Stand from and Jeep/Auto Stand has totally collapsed and the grills fixed on it are uprooted posing threat for life.

In the center of the Motor Stand there is an open drain emitting foul smell and which may lead to any untoward incident at any moment.

The present road turns from its original shape into a muddy, dumped with garbages and waste materials. Unfortunately commuters have no option but to travel through this long stretch of “jumpy bumpy” road full of potholes and boulders, at times risking their own lives.

The water logged on the road, just inside as well as outside the entrance gate, has left a bad impression on travelers who arrive here from different parts of the state, as they have to pass through the logged water that too filled with mud and garbage.

According to source they local people, have been demanding for renovation for long time of the Bus Stand area, but their demands have fallen into the deaf ears of the Sub Divisional officers. Although, a committee is also organized to look after the condition of the motor stand but have gone all into vain.

However, in the recently organized review meeting, NBCC Chief Engineer assured that by 15th of July the renovation work will be completed but there is no progress on the renovation work for last many days. Further the localities demanded immediate renovation of the motor stand or else they will hold protest against the construction company.
