
Agartala, Sept 6, (TIWN) A massive fire broke out at Bhuturia in heart of the city at around 5.35 pm today. It is taking around 8 fire engines and over the last two and half hours to bring it completely under control. Engines from ONGC have also been deployed in the area. Administrative officials, police personals and TSR Jawans are keeping no stone unturned to bring fire under control.
According to live reports, a huge rubber and cloth go-down was gutted in the fire. However, there were no injuries or casualties. Till now it is impossible to mention the amount of loss in terms of rupees.
The area is one of the oldest and most-congested go-down in the city. Located near a residential area and hence there were fears that the fire could spread to nearby houses.
An eyewitness present at the site added, "For several years, there was speculation that a fire may break out in this area. But no preventive measures were taken so long and today finally the accident took place."
After the fire broke out, people started comparing the blaze with the last December’s pre-dawn blaze at Kolkata's AMRI hospital left over 90 people dead. Most of them were patients who choked to death due to toxic smoke.
