The river water get contaminated due to practice of manual cleaning of septic tanks, direct connection of overflow pipes of septic tanks into storm water drain, relatively large number of kaccha latrines and practice open defecation†he added.
As per the report of Tripura State Pollution Control Board, Howrah River becomes grossly polluted in Agartala city due to the garbage’s being dumped into the river.
The Howrah River’s Pollution is now at such a high level that the amount of toxins, chemicals and other dangerous bacteria found in the river are now almost threatening a danger to the lives of the people.
Howrah which is the life-line of water service for Agartala is being polluted every minute due to both domestic sewage and other pollutants that are being dumped in to the river untreated.
Despite CM’s several plea to the dwellers along the river to curb the pollution of the river water the pollution still continues in the river. Dumping of human excreta and solid waste has immensely resulted to the pollution of the river water. Continuous cleaning of clothes, washing of utensils and bathing of the cattle is the major source of the pollution.
