AGARTALA, July 12 (TIWN): On yet another feather to Left ruled Tripura and as part of intensifying postal connectivity, Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday inaugurated the core banking services for Agartala Head post office and has unveiled the foundation stone for Dimapur MDG at Sonartori conference hall. Prasad also launched Special cover on “Tripura State Museum, Ujjayanta Palace” on Sunday at Agartala Sonartori Guest House. The newly launched special cover on Ujjayanta Palace includes the history of the palace, the geographical allocations and the several ups and down it has gone through. Minister of communication and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad launched the first post Shoppe in North East for Agartala Head post office. Launching the first ever ‘post Shoppe’ for Agartala Head post office Minister Ravi Shankar said that keeping in mind the demands and requirements of our customers, the post Shoppe would serve as one stop where the customers can procure stationary items envelops and related materials including customized parcels for booking. Interestingly, “My stamps” counter is also opened where personalized stamps can also be made.” Addressing the program Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that Post offices in India are playing the crucial role for vast connectivity with all parts of the state.

He also said that there are all together 1 lakh 50 thousand post offices in India and among them 1 lakh 20 thousand post offices are operating from rural India. Postal services have made their successful imprints in the country, said Ravi Shankar. 

In the series of foundation stone laying programme, the Union Minister has dedicated Core Banking Services at Agartala Head Post office as through Core banking service customers may access their bank account and perform basic transactions from any of the member branch offices. 

Ravi Shankar Prasad, union minister for Communications & IT, has also unveiled the foundation stone ceremony of Dimapur Mukhya Dak Ghar building from Agartala through video conferencing on A programme for the same would also be held at the old Post Office site at Dimapur near East Police Station. Director of Postal Services Som Kamei expressed hope that the proposed building, which is a long pending project, will start soon and cater to the needs of the citizens of Dimapur.

Under the scheme of Swacch Bharat, all the deserving staffs of the circle were awarded for IT implementation and Rural Post Life Insurance (RPLI) and Postal Life Insurance (PLI). Kolasib Post office in Mizoram has been selected as the cleanest post office in the NE circle. Apart, the Kolasib office has also received the cleanest office award. As a part of the activities of NE postal circle, Radhakishorepur head post office of Agartala division is selected as the cleanest post office.

Yet in another pride moment, system administrators of Agartala and Kohima have been awarded for their contribution to the computerization projects.

However, Chief Postmaster general Smita Kumar, BJP state president Sudindra Das Gupta, Minister Tapan Chakraborty along with other dignitaries remained present in the program.
