KAMALPUR, July 9 (TIWN): The departmental proceedings and the security of deprived depositors’ money seemed to face a serious debacle as the departmental authorities as well as the police found busy in preparing plot to end the investigation with no result.

Almost three months ago, the Small Savings embezzlement of more than 10, 00, 000 rupees came to light at Noagaon branch post office under Kamalpur post office. The in-charge of the branch Anita Dey and the peon Manjugopal Bhattacharjee were treated as prime accused.

After a lot of din and bustle, the Department of Posts appointed one Zakir Husain, Inspector to probe into the matter. The depositors even alleged that, the two employees gobbled the money and burnt the pass books to destroy the clues.

After almost a month’s investigation, the Inspector declared 54 accounts to be valid. Meanwhile, according to the instruction from the department, although the branch in-charge Anita Dey submitted some amount with the post office, the peon Manjugopal denied to pay a single paisa demanding him clean. He rather asked the departmental authority to adopt legal action against him.

In this context, the Inspector of Posts and the Postmaster lodged a complaint against the employees of the branch office almost one and half months ago with the detailed embezzlement with the Kamalpur police station. But the investigating officer did nothing but to air the news of arresting Manjugopal almost five times. Commoners are alleging that, the investigating officer must make out some way to pocket some profit and save the accused as long as possible.
