KAILASAHAR, July 9 (TIWN): Kailsahar police on Wednesday arrested one Geeta Halam from her house at Kailasahar Jamtoilbari ADC village area in allegation of acid attack on a lady.

The victim is identified as Lanoukhon Halam (25).

Reportedly, on Wednesday morning the accused Geeta Halam along with other gang of women entered the house of the victim Lanoukhon Halam and brutally beaten her up and threw acid on her face and left her critically injured with 80 per cent burnt in her body.  

According to the neighbors, over past 6 months Lanpukhon Halam was undergoing an illicit relationship with Geeta’s husband Duam Halam.

Concerning the illicit relationship between Duam Halam and Lanoukhon Halam, frequent miffs occurred between Geeta and Lanoukhon. For past many days tension was prevailing among Geeta and her husband Duam Halam. And it also spread panic among the locals of the village.

This matter was no doubt solved in front of the Block Advisory Chairman 6 months back but the illicit relationship continued within Lanpukhon and Duam, alleged neighbor.

However, finally on Wednesday a quarrel broke between these two ladies, when Geeta went for REGA work and saw her husband Duam Halam roaming with Lanoukhon in motorbike. This incident further added fuel to her anger.

Agitated Geeta along with the gang of her ladies thronged to the house of the victim and dragged her out of the house cruelly beaten her up.  Later out of anger she brought the jug of acid from the room which is generally used for the production of rubber sheet and splashed the acid on Lanoukhon face and burnt her face severely along with the other parts of her body.

Getting alarm the localites reached to the spot and rushed her to Kailsahar district hospital for instant treatment. Doctor confirmed that the 80 per cent of her body has been burnt.

Raising voice against the accused Geeta Halam and the gang of other women the victim’s family members lodged complaint with kailasahar police station on Wednesday afternoon.

After primary investigation police on Wednesday afternoon arrested accused Geeta Halam from her house.

However, police is further investigating the case.
