AGARTALA, July 6 (TIWN): Bordowali-Battala, an important landmark in the city, gave the worst trauma to road users, for it is a Herculean task to cross the junction over the Howrah Bridge particularly during the peak hours due to gigantic traffic jam on Monday since morning 9.

With the beginning of the construction work of the fly-over work at Battala, the issue of traffic congestions came into public eye with the massive traffic jam from Bordowali-Battala road, disrupting the convenient movement of traffic on the road during office and school hours.

With the beginning of the construction work of fly-over at Battala, the road from Nagerjala to Battala has become congested resulting the parking of vehicles at the no parking zone on the roadside causing inconvenience to the smooth traffic movement, and more seriously to vulnerable pedestrians. Widened portions of the roads got fully occupied due to clogging on either sides of the road, dumping of the construction material on the road side, has immensely disrupted the smooth movement of traffic at Battala.

It is to be mentioned here that prior to the construction work of the first ever flyover, a ‘pilot’ meeting was held at Agartala DM (West) office with SDM (Sadar) Manik Lal Das along with Traffic SP Smriti Ranjan Das; and the construction agency delegates remained present. The meeting was held taking up the issue of containing traffic congestions, road clearance and other certain issues that need to be look after during the construction work.

Interestingly, in the saga of meeting the “bulk of administrative officers” couldn’t take any final consent for setting up better traffic system that was needed to be undertaken once the construction work had started in the city.” The administration was supposed to undertake several issues relating to the traffic system, road clearance, power lines and others prior to the construction, but failure of the department  came forward with massive traffic jam resulting the commuters face   heavy disturbances with their vehicles on the road.

Apart from the construction work of the fly-over, unruly attitude of CITU leaders is also responsible for leading to this traffic jam. Day after day even after strict instruction of the department to commute passengers from the Nagaerjala stand, the drivers still continue to load and unload passengers on the main road resulting traffic chaos in the city.

Loading and unloading of the passengers at the no-parking zone created mismanagement in the traffic movement. Thousands of vehicles remained stranded on the roads till 2 pm while the entire Battala town was virtually choked resulting into a chaos like situation there since Monday morning.

Increasing vehicular traffic has only made the matters worse and at the same time it has also become more dangerous for commuters in reaching their respective destinations. At any given point of time, it is utter chaos at the roundabout, which witnesses at least thousand vehicles crossing over the same road.

Negligence of Tripura Traffic and Police Department caused this major traffic jam on Monday morning. As a result, the public have been suffering continuously in that area for a long time. But the concerned department does not pay any attention to solve out the problems. According to the sufferers, traffic jam causes wastage of time and fuel unexpectedly. But the concerned department is maintaining silence over the traffic jam issue in the whole Bordowali-Battala area.

Traffic came to a halt or crawled on some sections of Nagerjala road as jam has simply disrupted the regular movement of the traffics on the roads.
