AGARTALA, July 5 (TIWN): To popularise and attract more vendees and guests from abroad, the second Indo-Bangla border here in Tripura bordering Bangladesh Tarapur District aims to increase the entry passes. Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Sepahijala D K Chakma who is also the Chairman of the border haat committee said, “The entry pass has been increased to 500 for the vendees and the guests from abroad.”

Expressing displeasure over the low trade volume at the haat ADM said, “I along with other members of the committee during the fourth day of the haat had a talk with the vendors and found that the trade volume is lowered and it needs to be restored soon.”

“Keeping in view the low volume trade, the committee had decided to increase the entry passes for the vendees and the guest for everyThursday,” adding D. K. Chakma said that the concerned vendors had urged the officials to allow more guests and vendees at the haat to popularise the haat.

He said that the committee members of both Sephaijala and Bangladesh Tarapur District had held a meeting taking up the issue and decided to increase the entry pass and take it to a total of 500.

Till the fourth day of the haat there were only 100 entry passes for the guests, but those were unable to meet the demands of the state. Earlier there were only 1000 passes for the concerned vendees amongst the 5 Km radius of the haat but it has been witnessed that compared to the vendees, the number of guests at the haat stands at large.

However, to meet the demands of the increasing rate of the guests at the haat the committees of both the territories had decided to increase the entry pass from the next haat i.e. from July 9, ADM mentioned.

Besides, talking on the stock of the situation later the committee would also plan to increase the number of vendees among the 5 Km radius of the haat.

Talking to TIWN on Saturday over phone ADM D. K. Chakma also said, “The Kamalasagar-Tarapur border haat committee had also taken up the issue of allowing fishes at the haat which is restricted as of now but is permitted at Srinagar border haat.”

Adding to that he said it would be decided later and the proposal has been sent to the Bangladesh Government to look into the matter.

The meeting in this regard had come up after the concerned vendors had demanded for it with an aim to increase their profit which is lower currently.

However, it is worthy to mention here that the haat committee being constituted is eyeing forward to popularise the haat being set up for the second of its kind here in the land-locked state of Tripura
