DHARMANAGAR, July 4 (TIWN): After receiving negligence from the Assam Government in the renovation work of the Gemon Bridge over Barak River, a four members’ team from ‘Karimgang District Transport Security Samiti’ recently placed demands to the Chief Minister Manik Sarkar urging to take a fruitful initiative to maintain a healthy communication between the two states: Mizoram and Tripura.

Gemon Bridge over Barak River is the only bridge at the Badarpur area which connects both the state, Tripura and Mizoram.

During the visit, the four members team of ‘Karimgang District Transport Security Samiti’ submitted a memorandum mentioning about the renovation of the Gemon Bridge including renovation of 8 and 6 numbers’ National Highway and few others.

Informing about the pathetic condition of the state, the team members also said that the Gemon Bridge can collapse at any moment.

They also highlighted on the maintenance of the bridge at Barak region which has been playing an essential role for a healthy communication between Mizoram and Tripura.

They also mentioned that earlier they had placed several demands asking to renovate the bridge or to construct a new one to the Assam Government but they have not showed any eagerness towards the terrible condition of the bridge.

If the only means of communication collapses, then Tripura will also get detached from its neighbouring state Mizoram. Therefore, the team demanded to ensure the keen eyes of the Central Government towards the bridges and to take initiatives to construct a new bridge in that area.

Besides, they also demanded to urgently renovate the 6 number National Highway from Jolai, Meghalaya to Churaibari and the 8 number National Highway. They also stated that the negligence of the concern authority left the road turn to a pathetic condition.

They also highlighted the fact that in the coming few months when the Karimgang- Agartala trains will stop running due the Mega Block work the problem will increase.
