High level meeting at New Delhi finals 100 MW power to Bangladesh from Tripura's Palatana, OTPC to launch 90 MW Unit soon

AGARTALA, July 4 (TIWN): A high level meeting was held at New Delhi had finalized the power deal with the Bangladesh with Government of India pushing the state government here to find its own source and supply 100 MW of power to its neighboring country Bangladesh. Talking to the reporters here at the civil secretariat on Friday, Secretary for State power S K Rakesh had said that there is a surplus power here in the state of Tripura. OTPC at Palatana will start another unit within this year which will be generating 90 MW power. Rakesh said, “The transmission lines will be set up from Suryamaninagar to South Comilla via Kaiya Dhepa of the state within December of 2015.” There is scope that the transmission lines might start working by the first quarter of 2016, he told reporters on Friday..S.K.Rakesh informing the media about the outcome of the high level meeting held at Delhi said that the meeting was held on June 2 at the Ministry of Power office, where it has been finalized that the state government would provide a power of 100 MW to Bangladesh from its own source. During the meeting, a five members’ committee was constituted from Indian side and a three members’ committee from Bangladesh side were formed. Indian side committee comprises of Director of Transmission of the Ministry of Power, Joint Secretary of Ministry of External Affairs, representative of Central Electricity Authority, senior officer of TSECL Mahananda Debbarma and state Power Secretary S.K.Rakesh, he said.

It is to be mentioned that all the power generating company across the country would receive about Rs 6, 00,000 crore debt from the entire country.

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has targeted to finish the transmission line to supply 100 MW power to neighbouring Bangladesh via Brahmanbaria grid from Tripura by end of this year.

The 100 MW power will be fed from Suryamaninagar grid of Agartala to Brahmanbaria grid from the state government’s share of 726 MW capacity gas based mega power project at Palatana in south Tripura.

However, The Centre is funding Rs 83 crore for the project and despite all odds the Tripura has topped the list of highest power surplus state in the country with the installation of 726.6 MW Palatana project. Besides, according to the official the Palatana OTPC is expected to launch another Unit to generate at least 90 MW of power soon this year.

However, with this the Bangladesh is expected to be connected with the Tripura power by 2016. PGCIL has already completed work on 20 of the 65 transmission towers in south and western part of Tripura whereas the work on more 45 towers is underway.

The state government has planned to supply power to Bangladesh as the Bangladesh government had extended her helping hand towards bringning the heavy machineries here in Tripura Palatana through their land.
