AGARTALA, July 4 (TIWN): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar had simply played a role of a silent spectator despite the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the center had announced Rs. 1000 crore for the development of the North Eastern states including Tripura in regard of road and other crucial connectivity. However, keeping this in view the Youth Congress National Secretary also the Tripura in-charge Mohammad Dayanan Hussain on Friday has come out slamming the Left front government here in Tripura. He said, “The Chief Minister of Tripura on yet another newly owned policy had started praising the government at the center with an aim to restrict the CBI probe on Tripura Chit Fund scams.”

The silent role of the state Left front government has come up on June 29 after the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had laid the foundation stone of NH road connection between Agartala and Sabroom. Gadkari had announced Rs. 1000 crore for the North Eastern development and for the development of the crucial road connectivity in the North Eastern states including Tripura.

Interestingly, Manik Sarkar on the very day slamming the previous UPA-II government at the center had praised the present NDA government by saying that the government at the center now has brought up exclusive policies for the North eastern states. But, what made the Tripura Chief Minister to stand tall with the NDA policy for the NE region?

Hussain answering the question had said on Friday, “It is nothing but the chit fund scam which rocked the entire state and the CBI probe into the scam, had prompted Manik Sarkar to praise the NDA government.” Adding to that Hussain on Friday claimed, where was the harm when the then Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh had announced Rs. 15, 000 crore for the North east development.

But, one cannot deny to the fact that the chit fund companies here in the state allegedly prompted by the Chief Minister Manik Sarkar had duped crores of money from the innocent people of the state. However, after several persuasions and under pressure from several fields, the state government listed at least 5 chit fund companies and managed to seek the CBI probe from the centre. What makes the newly owned policy of the Left front government interesting is that yet today no CBI probe has been ordered for Tripura chit fund companies.

Because, Sarkar also managed to tackle the government at the center in this regard and is on a spree to praise the NDA government either it gives a better policy for Tripura or turn silent for the North eastern development.

However, it is worthy to mention here that earlier the congress here in Tripura had hit the streets of Delhi recently demanding for the CBI probe into the chit fund companies which duped the large investment made by the innocent people of the state. But here it gives a very clear picture where Manik Sarkar would not be thumbed by any means, because the newly owned strategy by him has got a momentum as the central government has got no plan yet today to order for a CBI probe here.

Hussain said “The CBI probe led Manik sarkar to praise the government at the center because he knows that once the CBI id probed here he along with his party members would be nabbed.” But, it would be wise enough to mention here that sarkar would not let it happen as Tripura Chief Minister had never learnt to lose hope and keeps on going run its policy to praise the government at the center.

Congress recently staging a sit in demonstration at New Delhi accused the Tripura government of being hand in glove with dubious chit fund companies and demanded a CBI probe into affairs of 142 such firms. Coming down hard on the Manik Sarkar government, Tripura PCC chief Birajit Sinha and CLP leader Sudip Roy Burman alleged that the Left Front regime had done nothing despite 92 of the 142 chit fund companies fled along with huge money of the common people.

Alleging that the Chief Minister was working as a "brand ambassador" for the chit fund companies, they told a joint press conference at the AICC headquarters here that these firms have spread a vast network in the north eastern state.  As many as 14 lakh investors in the state have been defrauded by Rs 1172 crore, they said citing a preliminary estimate. They said that the actual amount "looted" by the companies will be much more.
