AGARTALA July 3 (TIWN): Mid-day meal program begins at Agartala Municipal English medium School in presence of DM west Dr. Milind Ramteke and Mayor Prafullajit Sinha on Friday.

Mid-Day Meal Scheme is aimed to avoid classroom hunger, increase school enrolment, increase school attendance, improve socialization among castes, address malnutrition and empower women through employment.

The Mid-day-Meal Scheme is a school meal programme of the Government of India designed to improve the nutritional status of school-age children nationwide. The programme supplies free lunches on working days for children in Primary and Upper Primary Classes in Government, Government Aided, Local Body, Education Guarantee Scheme, and Alternate Innovative Education Centers, Madarsa and Maqtabs supported under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, and National Child Labour Project schools run by the Ministry of Labour.

On the one hand where many scandalous issues have come up against the Mid-day meal scheme’s service in the state like: Lack of hygienic conditions for storage and preparation of food –food cooked on unhygienic way were also seen in many schools in Rural Tripura, students falling sick after taking mid-day meal, discrepancy in  the distribution of mid-day meal, irregularities in mid-day meal program,  students falling ill after mid-day meal as huge amount of dead insects were found at their mid-day meal curry and many more, now question arises how the Agartala Municipal School will continue in providing hygienic  mid-day meal to the students.

As a part of the program, DM west Dr. Milind Ramteke and Mayor Prafullajit Sinha also distributed books, school dress and other study materials to the students for the development of the children and to grow their interest in studies.

However, MLA Ratan Das along with other dignitaries remained present in the program.
