KAMALPUR, July 3 (TIWN): Kailasahar and Kamalpur-two border adjacent sub-divisions of erstwhile North Tripura district of the State had long been suffering for the lack of connectivity in air and rail route.
For last one or two decades the demands for air connectivity intensified as two airports existed and long been unused in both the sub-divisions.
During the advent and extension of railway connectivity in the State, a great hope raised that both of these sub-divisions would be connected with rail link. But the revolutionist (!) State government mysteriously numbed up in the case.
Then Kailasahar commoners constituted a development forum named Unnayan Mancha irrespective of political identity and stirred many programs to fulfill the demands. Adding more to it the Mancha gave deputation to the Governor on Thursday to intervene in the process to meet their demands.
On the contrary, Kamalpur airport larger than Kailasahar had long left unused.
Occasionally, the CM landed there to attend rally and meetings with helicopter. Security forces’ helicopters also took off and landed here. More easy and level terrain existed for extension of railway connectivity from Ambassa.
But the political leaders as well as commoners kept just shut up in the general interests of Kamalpur. Way back in 2013, the Press Club gave deputation to the CM through Pabitra Kar for linking up Kamalpur with rest of the State and Country through rail and air connectivity.
Before that former MLA Manoj kanti Deb several times raised the issue in the assembly. But till 2013 no efforts from the part of the Citizens and the politicians were noticed. Now when Kailasahar advanced a giant leap what would be the fate of Kamalpur, becomes the burning question.
