KAILASHAHAR, July 3 (TIWN): This year a total of Rs. 100 crore’s fishes have been imported that is of 10, 000 Metric Tonne through Churaibari check post, said State Fishery Minister Khagendra Jamatia while addressing in an inaugural programme of a go-down for the fishery purpose at Panisagar under North Tripura District on Thursday.

Minister Jamatia stated that on its ambitious plan, the state Government has been taking several initiatives to make the state’s fish farmers self sufficient with the production of 20 kg of fishes per citizen of the state. He also claimed that by 2017, the state’s fish-farmer will be self sufficient which will decrease the import of fishes in the state.

He also informed that last year the production of fishes were around 64, 000 Metric Tonne.

Expressing glad, Minister Jamatia said that comparing to the earlier days; recently proper arrangements have been made to maintain good quality of fish production. Improvised go-down have been constructed to preserve the foods of the fishes including medicines and many other things.

Further, he also informed that process has been going on to construct 23 go-downs at all the 23 sub-divisions.

However, where the Minister claims tall of making the state fish farmers self sufficient, on the other hand all the small and large market were been marked with the fishes of Andhra Pradesh, Kolkata including Bangladesh. It can be said that the fish markets runs only due to the imported fishes.

This situation raises questions, if the state government has been taking so much effort to make the state fisher man self sufficient then why the market is dependent over the imported fishes.

Only countable numbers of stall were being seen at the market area.
