AGARTALA, July 2 (TIWN): The construction work for the first ever flyover here in Tripura capital kicked started full-fledged from Agartala-Battala, the centre point of the over head road. With an aim to restrict major disturbances to the traffic movements here in the city areas during the construction work, the District administration has called for a meeting on July 3 at DM West Office with the Traffic Department Authority, AMC staffs. The entrusted construction company staffs and others are expected to remain present in the meeting which is to be held for the second time. Besides, talking to TIWN on Thursday PWD Engineer in chief Sunil Bhowmik said, the PWD Division 1 engineers are looking into the entire matter of the construction work of the flyover. Asked about the issue to be taken up in the second meeting DM (West) Milind Ramteke said to TIWN, “We have planned to hold the second meeting here in the office with the traffic department, AMC and others with an aim to kick start the work in the main lands.” Adding to that DM saidthat the meeting would also take up the issue of various encroachments.

“Our aim is to eye that the traffic movement should not be effected at large during the construction work.”

The Nagarjuna Construction Company entrusted to the construction work of the flyover, had already started bringing the heavy tools and materials at the construction site here with the preliminary work for the construction which had already begin here at the centre point of Battala, over which the first ever flyover would run connection Dropgate with the Fire Brigade Chowmuhni.

According to the plan and the design of the ambitious project undertaken by the Government of Tripura, the flyover over would start from Agartala Dropgate and connect Fire brigade Chowmuhni via Battala from where another over head road would touch the Melarmath.

To contain the increasing number of vehicles, populations, offices and others the Left front govt. has taken up an ambitious project of building fly over at Agartala city. The 2.2 km’s flyover, which is expected to ease the growing traffic congestion, will be completed in 30 months time. The estimated cost of the building the flyover is Rs 250 crore. Tripura, which is one of the most peaceful states in the Northeast, has one of the fastest growing economies in the region.

The construction work for building the flyover had kicked off at Agartala Battala with the engineers of the state government here, along with the Nagarjuna Construction Company agency staffs actively engaged to the work which is expected to be completed by 30 months.

As many as 100 pillars will cover the 2.5 km fly over. Once the fly over is constructed, vehicles from the Nagerjala bus stand will continue to ply on the same path. It means the vehicles leaving Nagerjala will not be allowed to catch the fly over to avoid traffic congestion, said the officials.

The project has gone to Hyderabad-based Nagarjuna Construction Company Limited through a national tender. Since they are already engaged in advanced construction work in Agartala like the NIT and others, the state government here flooring the tender had entrusted to undertake the work for building the flyover at the Agartala city.

The main motive of creating the Fly-Over Bridge is to seek the solution for maintaining the Traffic system in the city. As day by day the population and the number of vehicles are increasing, the problems are arising in traffic system too.
