Prize distribution ceremony to be held on the occasion of 66th Van Mahotsav

AGARTALA, July 1 (TIWN): The 66th State based Van Mahotsav will be celebrated at Jirania Birendranagar Boys Higher Secondary School on Wednesday afternoon.

During the programme, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar will be present and is scheduled to inaugurate the Check dam. The theme of the programme will be ‘Save Howrah and Keep Howrah Clean’

Van Mahotsav which was started as a crusade with a lofty purpose to save the earth will be observed with plantation of saplings in various schools and Anganwadi of the area. Also with an aim to create awareness among the people, the concern authority has earlier organized competition on Sports and other curriculum activities.     

Van Mahotsava is an annual tree planting festival in the month of July. During this festival thousand of trees are planted all over India. In 1950, it was started by K. M. Munshi, the Union Minister for Agriculture and Food at that time. It was started to create awareness in the mind of the people for the conservation of forests and planting of new trees.

On the occasion of 66th Van Mahotasav, the sports officer of jirania has announced the names of the winners of race, sit and draw competition and colorful rally organized for Van Mahotsav on June 26 and 28. The officer further said that around 2000 students from 15 schools and 2 colleges have joined the campaign of Save Howrah and keep Howrah clean on 26 June. Among them, Brajanagar H.S. School occupied first position, Jirania khala H.S. secured second and Birendra Nagar H.S. School secured third respectively.  

However, in cross country race competition Prabindra Das of Teliamura, Juwel Mia and Bishal Das of Agartala have respectively occupied the first, second and third position. And in Women’s race completion Hadiza Begum, Runa Akhtar,  Rekha Das of Agartala have occupied the first, second and third position .

About 300 children participated in 3 groups of Sit and draw competition and from group-A Antariksha Pal, souvik Roy and Pranjal Saha occupied the first second and Third position in the competition.  In “Plantation and Preservation of tree groups Sunita Sinha, Diptanil Das and Dipankrita Das has secured the first, second and third position.  Apart from all these competition the officials have also declared the name for the students of all other participants who have secured the positions.

However, the prizes will be distributed among the winners on Wednesday in presence of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Forest Minister Naresh Jamatia at Jirania Birendranagar Boys Higher Secondary School on Wednesday.
