Chief Minister Manik Sarkar attends the review meeting organized by RD department

AGARTALA, June 30 (TIWN): Helping the poor, making people self-sufficient by extending helping hands to them should be our aim in life, says Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in a secretariat conference hall on Monday. Addressing the review meeting organized by State Rural Development Department, under the initiatives of National Rural Livelihood Mission and NE Rural Livelihood Project Chief Minister Manik Sarkar further said that a representative team is to be constituted who will look after the possibilities of elevating poverty from the state.

National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) was launched by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India in June 2011. Aided in part through investment support by the World Bank, the Mission aims at creating efficient and effective institutional platforms of the rural poor enabling them to increase household income through sustainable livelihood enhancements and improved access to financial services.

The Development Objective of the North East Rural Livelihoods Project (NERLP) is to improve rural livelihoods, especially that of women, unemployed youth and the most disadvantaged, in four North Eastern States of Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. This project started in the year 2013 on 31st October.  It is to be mentioned that along with other states, the project also began in Tripura on April 1st, 2013.

Speaking at the meeting Chief Minister Manik Sarkar further said that geographical area comparing to other states is less and initiative should be taken in a full-fledged manner to help the people with the help of NERLP and NRLM. He also asked the rural development Minister and officials to do regular intervention program in the areas for scrutinizing the development work under this project. Following this, CM Manik Sarkar himself constituted a 5 member monitoring team and urges the rural development department to look into the matter.

However, apart from Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, RD minister Naresh Jamatia, Chief Secretary Yashpal Singh along with other dignitaries remained present in the program.
