AGARTALA, June 29 (TIWN): The statue of Bhagat Singh has been uprooted from Battala area on Monday morning during the construction work of fly-over work in the Battala city.

A landmark of Battala; the five years old Bhagat Singh statue had uprooted from the spot. The towering Bhagat Singh statue - one of the well known statues of the city, which stood for many years at Battala is being deracinate on Monday morning.

Although the statue is being uprooted from the spot for the construction of Fly-over but so far it is not yet decided where the statue of Bhagat Singh would be replaced in the coming days.  

The construction work of the first ever flyover in Tripura capital is currently underway. Getting a green signal from the state Public Work Department (PWD) the departmental engineers along with the entrusted Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) have taken up the construction work for building Rs. 250 crore flyover linking AD Nagar police lines with Fire Brigade Square in the city.

To control the traffic congestion from the increasing number of vehicles, populations, offices the government has taken up an ambitious project of building flyover at the Agartala city. The 2.2 kms flyover is expected to ease the growing traffic congestion.

Flyover will start from Drop Gate (Fire Service office), and is scheduled to touch Fire Brigade Chowmuhani via Battala. A subway of the fly over will be constructed upto Melarmath. As per the layout of the project, the big Banayan tree and the temple at Battala will be remained untouched. As many as 100 pillars will cover the 2.5 km fly over.

The first ever 2-lane flyover in the capital city will lower the traffic jam by at least 40% to 45% and it will make a smooth fast track movement of the vehicles.

According to the section of city dwellers fly over bridge, would be blessing for the people living in Agratala city, as the pupils can never be on time in their office or school due to the tremendous traffic issue. Mainly the Battala station, which have junction of more than four roads passing and connecting to a single road have been causing the maximum traffic jam.
