AGARTALA, June 29 (TIWN): The District Administration on Monday had locked another cinema hall at Agartala city center after the management failed to pay rent in due time as per the agreement between Society for Management of City Center and the movie hall management. However, a total of Rs. 1 crore 45 lakhs remained pending with the management of the hall to pay.

Talking to TIWN on Monday in this regard the DM (West) Milind Ramteke said, “The Priya Entertainment Private Limited cinema hall here at Agartala city center has been locked today after they were found failed to pay their rent to the society as per the agreement.”

“The Priya Entertainment Limited cinema hall” was supposed to pay Rs. 4 lakhs monthly as a rent as per the agreement between Society for Management of City Center and the movie hall management. “After several notice issued by the state administration the hall management failed to pay the rent saying that they are running loss,” said DM.

The DM (West) on Monday locked the hall in presence of the SDM (Sadar), DCM, Executive Magistrate and other officials. However, later all the equipments inside the hall were seized. DM told to TIWN, “A legal action would be taken against the management and the owner of the hall.” He also said that since the year 2013 the state administration had issued several notices to the management of the hall till this point of time but despite that the owner failed to deposit the rent, as a result the revenue of the state government has come down.

Despite issuing a final notice with the management on June 15 this year which expired on June 22, the owner of the hall failed to deposit the total amount of Rs. 1 crore 45 lakhs along with the interest, said DM.

However according to the official the management has been running the cinema hall since the past couple of years without paying the rent as per the agreement following which the state administration on Monday managed to lock the cinema hall and all the equipments and the tools were seized prior to go for a legal action against the management and the owner of the hall.
