Unakoti District Jail to be completed by June 2016, says PWD Engineer Goutam Rai

KAILASHAHAR, June 29 (TIWN): The remaining work of the Unakoti District Jail at Jaruntali Panchayat has been under construction since 2014 and will be completed by June 2016, said PWD Engineer Goutam Rai on Monday.

Talking to TIWN, PWD Engineer Goutam Rai said, 60 percent work is almost done and the rest of the work would be completed within the mentioned time. Stressing on the infrastructure of the jail, Rai added that the jail has such efficient capacity that for the next 50-years no construction will be required for any other jail.

The construction of the jail has been commenced in the year 2014 in the month of June.

The Jail has been under construction spending an estimated cost of Rs. 10. 94 crore, has capacity of 100 prisons for the male including 25 prisons for the female. Besides, 10 VIP cells for male and another 10 VIP cells for the female, said PWD Engineer Goutam Rai.

When asked about the progress in the construction of the Unakoti District Jail, the locals said that if the construction work goes on in such manner that they doubt that in would get complete by June 2016.

However, it has been mentioned that if the jail has been shifted to Jaruntali Panchayat then it would be beneficial for the locals of the area as after the shifting process of the jail, the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital would be expanded.

“With the expansion of the hospital, the common people of the area will be benefited all the way. The capacity of the hospital will increase which will lead better service in the hospital”, said a local.

At present the distance of the jail is 100 metre from the city and after it gets shifted at Jaruntali Panchayat the distance will be 8 kilometre from the city.

“Earlier the jail was near to the city but with the shift of it we will get the better health facility which the necessity of most of the people in the area”, said a local.
