AGARTALA/ MOHANPUR, June 29 (TIWN): After appealing for continues three years, till day a family of Mantala village deprived from the handicapped allowance for their son.
“In three years of duration, I have visited the Mantala Panchayat office for 8 times, appealing for Handicapped allowances for my son”, said Nantu Kol, father of Milan Kol. But till day no initiative has been taken, added.
Milan Kol (21), a resident of Mantala village under Mohonpur Block, is handicapped by birth. At present his father Nantu Kol is a daily wage labourer and managing the four member family under huge stress.
It has been three years that the family has been appealing for the Handicapped allowances for their son but till day no initiatives has been taken to facilitate the family. Besides, the family has been registered under Above Poverty Line (APL) list which means they do not even get the minimum allowances under the government scheme.
Nantu Kol alleged that there are families in the area who earns hefty amount of money but still their name has been registered in the BPL (Below Poverty Line) card list and also enjoying the different Government schemes which are for the BPL card holders but when they appealed for the BPL card, the officials ignored the issue.
He further raised an allegation that due to political reasons and negligence of Panchayat officials till day being a handicapped not even a single allowance was enjoyed by his son Milan Kol.
Expressing grief over the situation Milan Kol said that at the age of 20-year also, he has to depend on his father’s little earning. He further said that if the Panchayat takes the initiatives to identify the BPL families and then distribute the cards then the deprived families will get the opportunity to enjoy the benefits declared under the Government Scheme which will not only benefit their family but also to the needy families of the area.
Focusing the Panchayat officials, Milan stated that if the concern officials identify the BPL families then it will benefit some more handicapped of the area.
