Tripura prepares for by-poll counting on June 30 amid ‘rigging’

AGARTALA, June 28 (TIWN): Tripura prepares to count the fate of the by-election aspirant on Tuesday amidst the vote ‘rigging’ as alleged by the opposition congress just after the polling for 13-Pratapgarh and 46-Surma constituency ended peacefully on June 27 without any report of untoward incidents, according to the official of the state election commission. Securities are deployed infront of the strong room at Agartala Umakanta School, where the fate of the aspirants is locked inside.

The securities comprising of the central paramilitary forces, BSFs and others are deployed to guard the fate locked EVMs here at Agartala Umakanta School. The counting of votes would be carried out on June 30, Tuesday when the votes of total 50004 voters at 13-Pratapgarh and the votes of total 42,142 voters at 46-Surma constituency would be unlocked to decide the fate of the aspirants.

As many as 50,004 voters, of which 24,492 are women, went for exercising their franchise in 13-Pratapgarh SC reserved constituency while 42,142 voters, including 20,541 women, went to cast vote in 46-Surma SC reserve assembly constituency on Saturday.

With 85 percent in Pratapgarh and 78 percent in Surma constituency of the electorate having cast their votes on for the first time used Electronic Voting machines (EVMs) in which candidates' photographs have been displayed to avoid confusion among the voters, the by-polling has ended peacefully on June 27.

However, just after the voting to by-elections ended here in Tripura on Saturday the Congress in Tripura alleged massive rigging by ruling Left Front in several polling centers in both the seats and demanded re-polls in the state. It was alleged that a section of presiding officers stopped the Congress polling agents to enter the polling hall to help the ruling party cadres do rigging.
